LET’S EAT GRANDMA have had the busiest of years releasing their critically adored third album “Two Ribbons”, touring the UK+US, releasing the standalone ‘Give Me A Reason” and sound-tracking the Netflix series “The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself”.
Meanwhile Rosa Walton’s solo track ‘I Really Want to Stay At Your House’ blew up the internet following its appearance in the anime ‘Cyberpunk 2077:Edgerunners’
JULIA JACKLIN’S third LP “Pre-Pleasure” expanded her sonic world, building on her incredible songwriting with a diverse musical palette which had the press raving and once heard will stay with you for years:

FLUME continued to pioneer, following his muse to create his best and most coherent album to date in ‘Palaces’ – an engrossing concept album with some of his most powerful songs such as ‘Palaces’ with Damon Albarn, ‘Say Nothing’ with Maya, “Sirens” with Caroline Polachek and ‘Highest Building’ with Oklou, along with pioneering presentation devised with long term collaborator Johnathan Zwada.
As if this weren’t enough, he celebrated 10 years of his debut with the release of ‘Slugger 1.4 [Export Wav]’ from the vaults and two remix packages featuring Tchami, Mount Kimbie and Prospa amongst others.
The ever loved ALVVAYS returned with an instant classic third album ‘Blue Rev’, featuring Pitchfork’s song of the year ‘Belinda Says’, alongside other incredible singles ‘Pharmacist’ and ‘Easy on Your Own’. Limited edition Rough Trade vinyl here!
MOONCHILD SANELLY pushed things forwards with her inimitable style and flair with the release of her ambitious double album “Phases” – an expansive celebration of her unique identity, pushing forward her iconic amapiano sound and delving into international future-pop approaches with anthems such as ‘Demon’ feat. Sad Night Dynamite, ‘Cute’ feat. Trillary Banks and ‘Strip Club’ feat. Ghetts.
Building on this acclaimed LP she also released the standalone single ‘Kokokokoko’ with Jidenna and Theology HD and a killer remix set featuring fresh takes from Grove, DJ Lag and Mor Elian.
JULIEN CHANG released his second album “The Sale”; a personal album both lyrically, exploring love and the problematics of artistic creation in this era of late-capitalism, and musically with Julien once again performing and producing almost all of the parts on this expansive musical odessey. It’s a giving record with such elegant songs as “Marmalade” and “Time and Place” and it’s yours to enjoy now -
MYKKI BLANCO brought their most personal and brave album to date to the world, Stay Close To Music. Musically coherent, working with producer Falty DL, and joined by such special guests as Kelsey Lu, Michael Stipe, MNEK, Saul Williams, ANOHNI, Diana Gordon, Devendra Banhart and Jónsi but with an intimacy that could only come from a fearlessly pioneering artist at the height of their creative powers.
LOYLE CARNER released the important work ‘Hugo’ his most cathartic and ambitious record yet, both a rallying war cry for a generation forged in fire and a study of the personal internal conflict that drives the r album - as a
mixed-race Black man, as an artist, as a father and as a son.
FOALS followed their epic 2-part preceding albums with a their most direct and instant work to date – a refreshing return to life post-lockdown in “Life Is Yours” an exhilarating album containing the instant classics ‘2 AM’, “Wake Me Up” and “Crest of the Wave”. The band also recorded a special session for Apple Music with The London Contemporary Orchestra which you can hear here.

JOHNNY FLYNN has also released some inspiring projects this year, including the single ‘Coins for the Eyes’ with Robert MacFarlane created for the series “Digging for Britain” as well as his full soundtrack for the film “The Score” a ‘heist musical’ featuring radical intepretations of songs from his catalogue, new material and score composed with Joe Zeitlin of The Sussex Wit.
He has also worked with Heloise Tunstall-Behrens and Luisa Gerstein, collaborating once again with Robert MacFarlane on original songs for the Complicité radio of Susan Cooper’s novel “The Dark is Rising” which will be broadcast on the BBC from the 20 th of December, and songs from it available as a specially produced EP from then too.
MICHELLE graced us with their second full length LP ‘After Dinner We Talk Dreams’, packed with singles to move your feet and minds like ‘Syncopate’, ‘Mess U Made’ and ‘Pose’. As if that wasn’t enough they also released “The Side Dishes” with two excellent new songs and a standalone single “Pulse” to keep you moving through the winter.
Our modern chamber orchestra STARGAZE released their first full length body of original compositions ‘ONE’ with contributions from Greg Saunier, Arone Dyer, Tyondai Braxton, Nik Colk Void and Aart Strootman.
We had a great run of single releases and special projects this year too – dive into the deluxe version of DAMON ALBARN’s "The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows” with the essential album, a full live album recorded at The Union Chapel with songs from the album and his unmatchable songbook, instrumentals of the album and b-sides and bonus tracks – it’s an immersive experience.
ARLO PARKS released the incredible stand-alone single ‘Softly’, her cover of label mate JULIA JACKLIN’s “Good Guy” for Triple J’s Like a Version and a very special Spotify Single including her take on ‘You’re The One’ by Kaytranada.
WESLEY JOSEPH teased next year’s ‘Glow’ project with the singles ‘Cold Summer’ and “Monsoon’ you can check them out HERE and see the world-beating videos for both. He’ll be out on tour with Loyle Carner next year.
THE ANTLERS released a re-versioning of ‘Green to Gold’LINK by Brent Arnold and a band version of “Ahimsa” originally written as part of Peter Silberman’s solo album which you can revisit here.

KOKOKO! hit the road again and released the new 2-track single ‘Elongi na Elongi’ which is one of their fiercest and most direct missives to date.
Meanwhile THE JOY shared new single ‘Egoli’ alongside two major TV appearances introducing the group ‘Later with Jools 30th Birthday Show’ and in the US Jenifer Hudson’s daytime special.
But now we look to next year and our first raft of releases including the debut album from THE WAEVE , the new band from GRAHAM COXON and ROSE ELINOR DOUGALL which you can pre-order now, including this Rough Trade exclusive coloured vinyl with bonus EP.
We released the standalone song ‘Something Pretty’ from them this year along with ‘Can I Call You’, ‘Drowning’ and ‘Kill Me Again’ from the upcoming self-titled album this year.
We are also honoured to announce the forthcoming debut album proper from DAVE OKUMU ‘I Came From Love’. An epic, deeply personal record from which we have shared Chapter 1 ‘You Survived So I Might Live’ which features appearances from GRACE JONES, WESLEY JOSEPH and ESKA.
