To commemorate the 10th Anniversary celebrations of music company Transgressive, Rough Trade will be playing host to a special Transgressive-themed and artworked wall of releases - featuring rarities, modern classics and a host of Rough Trade-only exclusive formats - as well as a series of performances from Transgressive-affiliated artists.
Located at Rough Trade East from Tuesday 26th August, the Transgressive Wall will feature uniquely designed work from the artist Tinhead, best known for providing cover and sleeve designs for early Foals releases, amongst others.
Titles that will feature as part of the wall include Rough Trade exclusive releases such as Flume's recently unleashed remix of Arcade Fire's 'Afterlife' (which received over 1 million plays via Soundcloud in just a few days when unleashed last week) on limited edition, stamped white label 12", plus Johnny Flynn Live in Washington DC - the first ever live collection from the British songwriter, again on strictly limited 12" vinyl. Also on the racks will be very rare, recently unearthed copies of one of the label's earliest 7" single releases - Regina Spektor's 'Carbon Monoxide', housed in a Transgressive house bag: a release which sold out instantly upon its initial release back in 2005.
Alongside these three special items, there will of course be a collection of the company's most memorable releases and some further hidden gems from the catalogue.
Playing live instore during the period, meanwhile, are:
Thursday August 28th: DRY THE RIVER (Rough Trade East)
Dry the River's new album 'Alarms in the Heart' was recorded in Iceland and London, and features their finest work yet, including the songs Gethsemane and new single Everlasting Light.
Friday September 5th: PULLED APART BY HORSES (Rough Trade East)
Returning British rock giants Pulled Apart by Horses will slay the store in this intimate one-off in support of third album, 'Blood'. With huge riffs and massive choruses, as demonstrated by recent singles Hot Squash and Lizard Baby, this will be a sweaty one.
Monday September 8th: FAMY (Rough Trade West)
London's FAMY release their long awaited debut album 'WE FAM ECONO' on the same day as this special, stripped-down performance.
The Transgressive Wall and activity will run instore at Rough Trade East from Tuesday 26th August into September.
"Rough Trade are giving us our own "release wall" and a stage for some of our bands to perform on across the late summer. Anyone who knows anything about music knows that Rough Trade has the best taste on the planet, so to be carrying on our 10th Anniversary celebrations with them is a true privilege."
Toby L, Transgressive
"Ever since Trans001 - The Subways '1AM' 7" - to Trans174 - Famy 'Donkey' 12" - the Transgressive logo has been a sure sign of quality..."
