The collaborative Poliça and s t a r g a z e album is out just next week and is already beginning to pick-up some impressive reviews (a few are quoted below). Before then however, we have a picturesque, if slightly heartrending, video for Agree to share.
The video depicts the journey of two outlaws and culminates in an event that cements their fates into an eternal love. "[Agree] felt like a song for a lover,” says director and editor Maria Juranic, "there seemed to be a push and pull in the lyrics, which inspired the idea of a dangerous relationship like the one of the outlaws."
Here are a few quotes from those reviews we mentioned earlier.
"'How Is This Happening'... opens like a maudlin sunrise... the nerve that Trump's election exposed is clear here, delivered with a breathy, weary and pastoral lament. The piece quickly begins to undulate into its center zone; a dystopic oscillation, weeping sweep of strings and deeply pained chorus of French horn."
NPR Music (Songs We Love)
"The result is jarring and full of dissonance, a reflection of how we felt then and the sobering realization that that feeling hasn't really gone away since."
"[How Is This Happening] has Channy's unmistakable voice paired with more experimental, meditative music than Poliça do on their own, and it works really well."
"The opening orchestral arrangement [on Agree] lures you in before it hits a crescendo of drums. By the time the song hits the one-minute mark, you're knee-deep in haunting lyrics."
