Julien Chang’s new video for Memory Loss is a euphoric trip

Julien Chang has released a new video for Memory Loss.

The 19-year-old multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter says of the track, "A worsening memory is something I've always been worried about. The song was made with a kind of structural rigidity in mind, and about memory’s natural lack of it when having trouble putting faces to names, for example. It’s easy to be frustrated by that feeling, but being left with a sudden emotional reaction sparked by some stimulus for an unclear reason can be as lovely as it is disorienting."

The video was shared along with the release of his debut album Jules, which you can purchase and stream here. Entirely self-recorded and self-produced, Jules showcases Julien's remarkable vision and breathtaking instrumental chops. The arrangements twist and turn, toying with expectations and revelling in the freedom and discovery of youth. At the same time, Chang’s subtle, restrained vocal delivery suggests a deep thoughtfulness, one that belies his youth as he grapples with love and friendship, growth and change, memory and regret. The result is an album that boldly defies categorization, a trippy sonic collage that dares you to keep up as it tips its cap to everything from Stevie Wonder and The Beatles to Tame Impala and Robert Glasper.

Julien and his five-piece live band full of friends from school have embarked on their first ever tour, having played Baby's All Right in Brooklyn for an album release show. Remaining dates include two London headline shows at Bermondsey Social Club on 28th October and Servant Jazz Quarters on 29th October 2019.
