"'How Is This Happening'... opens like a maudlin sunrise... the nerve that Trump's election exposed is clear here, delivered with a breathy, weary and pastoral lament. The piece quickly begins to undulate into its center zone; a dystopic oscillation, weeping sweep of strings and deeply pained chorus of French horn."

Poliça and s t a r g a z e have release a 10-minute short film to accompany How Is This Happening, first released earlier this year on their album Music For The Long Emergency. The meditative and mind-bending film that surveys our threatened lands, super moons, and the unknown, was directed by Kron and produced by Meow Wolf, a DIY art-collective turned entertainment group based in Sante Fe, New Mexico.
Kron shot the film across countless road trips through national and state parks, forests, canyons, and gorges in New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. The lyrics charge the beauty of the natural world with a haunting refrain, and were written by Poliça singer Channy Leaneagh in the hours after Trump’s 2016 election and remain relevant to this day. A tide of orchestral swells ebb and flow punctuated by off-kilter electronic sounds and strings before Leaneagh’s haunted - albeit intimate - intonation takes hold during the poignant and prevalent chant, "How is this happening?"
