After several years working behind the scenes or with others, Dave Okumu is stepping in to the spotlight by himself with debut solo project, Knopperz, out 24th September via Transgressive Records.
Best known for being the lead singer and guitarist of Mercury nominated band The Invisible, Okumu is also one of Britain's most sought-after songwriters, producers and musicians. He has collaborated with an array of top tier artists, including; Arlo Parks, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, St Vincent, Jessie Ware, Grace Jones, Adele, and - as recently announced - Joan As Police Woman and the late Tony Allen on a forthcoming collaborative album.
Today, Okumu releases a fresh single from Knopperz entitled New Dawn and announces a special live stream show.
"New Dawn was inspired by Duval Timothy's piece entitled Language”, says Okumu. "Like much of Duval's wonderful music, it has a deeply reflective, meditative quality. Listening to the audio had a cleansing and restorative effect on me - I felt how I sometimes feel when I listen to sacred music and, at the end, I felt ready for a new beginning. A new dawn."
To celebrate Knopperz release, Okumu will be joined by special guests - including Duval Timothy and his Invisible bandmate Tom Herbert - for a one-off live stream performance. Tickets are available as part of the Knopperz pre-order bundle.
